What won’t be in The Sims 4?

There’s been a lot of Sims 4 announcements over the last couple of days; with lots of focus on what will – and will not – be included in the base game.

Swimming pools are out, as are the associated clothing options and activities. It’ll be the first time in the franchise’s history that pools won’t be included in the initial release. Fans are understandably outraged.

Toddlers are also being dropped, with Sim chilluns transitioning directly from baby to child, similar to the original Sims game.

Even they won’t be included in the base game on release day, there’s no reason they won’t show up oin a later patch or expansion pack. As SimCitizens wrote:

It doesn’t mean these features will only show up in an expansion pack. Recall in The Sims 3 where features “intended” for an expansion appeared for free during a base game patch. We can’t confirm if this will be done for The Sims 4, but it’s something to keep in mind after the game’s release.

The Sims 4 will not have basements or changing weather either. Discussing the exclusions on their blog, EA has stated:

“we recognize that some of you will be disappointed that pools and toddlers won’t be available when The Sims 4 Base Game launches in September, you should know that we’re building an incredibly strong foundation that is capable of fulfilling every one of your desires in the years to come.”

I’m not thrilled about waiting “years” for a Sims game that fulfills every one of my desires. We’ll have to wait until December to find out whether the compromises are worth it.
