Maxis hints that city sizes will be expanded

According to IncGamers, Maxis’s creative director Ocean Quigly has hinted towards larger city sizes in future updates to SimCity.

“That is just a performance decision. Given that was the performance constraint we decided to work under, we built a larger region environment and a bunch of the multiplay to work with 2km cities. At some point in the future, especially with mainstream computers become more capable, we could certainly make the city sizes larger.

We know that the size of cities will be especially small when the game is launched. It looks like Maxis are responding to player feedback and are at least considering expanding it in the future. Ocean finished the discussion with this bombshell:

“We’ll eventually get around to expanding the city size but I can’t make any promises as to when.”

  1. And when they do THEN I will buy the game. And only if they are expanded to proper sizes 3×3, 4×4 or something like that just wouldnt cut it. Atleast 10×10.

  2. Some of the buildings in the game have modules that can take big chunk of the map with all upgrades. University for example.

  3. Thanks for eventually getting around to making this game playable and worth my money. Next time just don’t release it until it’s finished. So half-baked.

  4. the frustration with the city sizes is just getting WAYYYYYYY to much. This game is perfect EXCEPT the size of the cities. Cant understand why they would even TRY to confine and steer our creativity with their own agenda. I bought the digital and physical copy of the game. I wont log in again till they give us bigger cities. And by bigger, i mean unlimited, NOT a larger square and if they don’t ill sell my unopened copy and go back to SC4 and one of the others.

  5. I made the decision to go back to Sim City Rush Hour with mods shortly after I played the new Sim City for a while. Now I have unlimited freedom and the room to do what I want. That is grow a city with the rail and mono-rail options that I like. If I was interested in mining I’d dig a hole in the back yard.
